This Coordinated Research Project (CRP) focuses on enhancing the security of nuclear and other radioactive material during transport through advanced technology applications. The primary goals include identifying and assessing the deployment of innovative technologies that enhance tracking, detection, and delay functions during transport. Additionally, the CRP seeks to evaluate the impact of emerging technologies on transport security and explore the feasibility of integrating security measures by design to foster broader acceptance and implementation. The research objectives also involve assessing new communication technologies that protect sensitive data and analyzing security practices from other sectors to identify vulnerabilities and effective solutions that can be adapted to transport security.
The CRP invites institutes from IAEA Member States to conduct experiment and research technical activities at their institutions, focusing on improving nuclear security during transport. This initiative aims to foster a supportive atmosphere for the development of innovative and new approaches and integrated technologies that will enhance security elements including tracking, detection, delay, security by design, and communications. The CRP will serve as a collaborative platform, facilitating the sharing of knowledge, best practices, and the exchange of information and expertise among participating institutions.
