New Appointments at the IAEA

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Dr. Hans Blix, has announced the following appointments:

Mr. Victor Mikhailovich Mourogov, from the Russian Federation, as Deputy Director General, Department of Nuclear Energy.

Mr. Mourogov was born in 1938. He studied Power Engineering at the Moscow Institute of Applied Physics and was a Candidate of Science at the Institute of Physical and Power Engineering (IPPE) at Obninsk near Moscow, where he became Doctor of Science in 1989 and Professor in 1992. Since 1994 he is Academician of the International Academy of Information. From 1970 to 1989 Mr. Mourogov worked as Senior Scientist at IPPE in Obninsk. Until 1992 he was Scientific Secretary of IPPE and Head of the Division on Organization, Planning Research and Development and Advanced Investigations. From 1992 to the end of 1995 Mr. Mourogov was Director of IPPE a State Research Center of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the IPPE Scientific Council and Member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Ministry of Atomic Energy of the Russian Federation.

Mr. Kenji Murakami, from Japan, as Director of the Division of Operations C, Department of Safeguards.

Born in 1947, Mr. Murakami obtained his B.Sc., in Physics at the Science University of Tokyo, Japan, and his Masters degree in Nuclear Engineering at Pennsylvania State University, USA. After an appointment with an engineering company in the nuclear industry in Alabama, USA, he joined Portland General Electric Co., Portland, Oregon, USA, in 1979 as a Licensing Engineer. In 1982 Mr. Murakami became a safeguards inspector with the IAEA, where he held a Group Leader's post from 1989 and became a Section Head in the Division of Operations C in 1991.
