Senior national nuclear regulators gathered in Vienna on 25-28 March for the IAEA’s SMR Regulators’ Forum, to discuss challenges and share experiences in developing regulations for small, medium sized or modular reactors (SMRs). SMRs, which have the potential to offer a low carbon alternative for a variety of applications, are among the most innovative emerging technologies in nuclear power. Commercial operations are expected to begin in the coming years.
