Statement to Sixtieth Regular Session of IAEA General Conference 2016 - Cancer and Sustainable Development Goals
Senior representatives of the Member States of the IAEA are meeting this week in Vienna, Austria, for the Agency's 60th General Conference. At the opening session of this five-day annual event, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano delivered a statement. He highlighted the Agency's most important achievements spanning its six decade history and stressed the importance of nuclear science and technology, and how it played a major role over the past 60 years in supporting sustainable development. Furthermore, he noted that through the Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT) and other activities, the Agency helps countries to devise comprehensive cancer control programmes.
